A note from Mrs. Wood in Guidance:
Professional Education Preparation Program (PEPP)
* The Professional Education Preparation Program (PEPP) offered by Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine (KYCOM) exists to remedy the significantly underserved medical needs of Kentucky's rural areas by addressing the chronic underrepresentation of Kentucky residents in medical school admissions.
* The KYCOM PEPP Scholars Program accepts Kentucky high school students. The KYCOM PEPP program annually enrolls approximately 25-30 high school students in a one-week summer residential program that offers participants a variety of educational experiences targeted to enhance their personal interest in a medical career, add to their understanding of the elements of a medical education, and expand their awareness of how medicine is practiced in a rural setting.
*Typically, PEPP program activities include lectures, anatomical laboratory sessions, volunteer work in the local hospital, and participation in relevant social and cultural events.
The PEPP application deadline is March 15th, 2019.
Below is information for University of Kentucky. Please read and be mindful of several upcoming sessions and information concerning admissions and scholarship applications. Also, please see the attached flyer for additional information concerning scholarships.
We have updated our scholarships this year and have released more details about exact offers to help students plan financially. Scholarship sheets are attached. GSE - Governor School for Entrepreneurs
Kentucky counselors should note that students who complete the GSE program will now be eligible for the same scholarship opportunities as GSA and GSP students. These awards begin Fall 2019 with the summer 2018 GSE graduates. Students that attended GSE in previous years are not eligible. UK is a member institution of RaiseMe to help students identify scholarship opportunities and stay on track for future college funding during high school. Application Information
Our letter of recommendation is still optional.
For most students, we encourage them not to submit a letter of recommendation. A recommendation letter would be helpful if the student has a learning disability, difficult family history, or other situation that would need explanation on their behalf to shed some light on the academic credentials. We are in the process of onboarding with the Coalition Application, but for now we encourage students to use the Common Application or the UK application at applyuk.com. Upcoming Deadlines February 15: regular decision admission (no consideration for academic/competitive scholarships or Lewis Honors College), William C. Parker Diversity Scholarship (February 15th is application deadline however early application is encouraged) Viewbook
An electronic copy of our viewbook can be found here. We are also always happy to mail you viewbooks if you would like some materials to keep in your office! Students can create a customized viewbook here. Campus Updates and Reminders
On September 14, UK kicked off a new campaign branded “Kentucky Can.” Funds raised will benefit students in many ways, including student financial assistance and opportunities for research, Education Abroad, and internships
