Will everybody please stand as we welcome our veterans in. You may now be seated. Good Morning as principal of Todd County Central High School I would like to welcome everyone to our annual Veterans Day program, especially the men and women we honor as veterans. We celebrate Veterans Day as an anniversary of the end of World War 1, which began on the 11th Hour of the 11th day and 11th month of the year 1918. This year marks the hundredth anniversary of the end of World War 1. The writer Michelle D Martine once said valor is the ability of not legs and arms but of courage and so on this day we remember the fallen and show our respect and gratitude to those that are still among us. Our friends and family neighbors and colleagues we salute you. At this time I would like to call for Miss Jennifer Adams, our assistant principal for recognition of our veterans. We would like to honor each branch of our military by calling them to stand when their branches are called. Will the members of the army please rise. Thank you for your service you may be seated. Will the members of a Navy please rise. Thank you for your service you may be seated. Will the members of the Marines please rise. Thank you for your service you may be seated. Will the members of the Coast Guard please rise. We thank the coast guard for their service. And will the members of the Air Force please rise. Thank you for your service you may be seated. At this time I would like to call forward Miss Madeline Drummond student council vice-president to read about the missing soldiers table. The table is set for prisoners of war and those missing in action from all wars. They're not with us today and we need to remember their sacrifice. This small table signifies a soldier's frailty against his or her captors. It is covered with a white tablecloth denoting the purity of his intentions in responding to his country's call. A lone chair is leaning against the table and signifies they are not here today A single red rose signifies the blood he or she may have shed to ensure others freedom. A red ribbon tied around the vase signifies unyielding resolve to get an accounting of all those who have not returned. A black ribbon tied around the candle reminds us of those who will not be coming home. Salt sprinkled on the plate represents the tears shed for the soldier. A slice of lemon on a plate represents the bitterness of his or her fate. An inverted wine glass serves as a reminder that he or she cannot join loved ones in toast. A candle signifies the desire to light the way home. A single burning candle represents the Light Of Hope and an illumination to guide the way home. The signing of the World War I Armistice took place at 11 a.m. in a railway coach near the Battle Zone in France. The bugles sounded ceasefire and the hostilities ended marking a significant moment in history. Veterans Day is primarily a tribute to America's living veterans and is typically observed more as a celebration than a somber remembrance as is Memorial Day. At this time please join me in a moment of silence for those who gave their lives for our country. We would now like to invite our 4-H troop in the singing the national anthem. Please rise. If you would please remain standing Miss Page Rager, student council president, will be leading us in the Pledge of Allegiance and invocation. Please join me in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance. I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands one nation under God indivisible with liberty and justice for all. Now please bow your heads for the invocation. Dear heavenly father we thank you for giving these men and women the courage to serve and defend our country. We pray that you bless these Veterans for their unselfish service and for the brave sacrifices that they have made for us. We pray that you provide your care for those that have been wounded from years of service and that you may be with the families that have lost loved ones to their service so that your constant presence may always be with them. We pray that we are able today to express our gratitude to the brave Heroes and for that we thank you Lord in Jesus name we pray. You may be seated. other family events because he was serving his country a man who gave the ultimate sacrifice and losing his son at War have served with that served under Brigadier General John's for nearly 3 years now and he has he's at I had he has my absolute respect as both a leader and a friend the only thing they could call him away from speaking to you today was a death in the family yesterday I felt it was important for him to cover that mission while cover down on this one for him today with your Indulgence and patience I would like to share the words to Norah Jones prepared for you today I would like to thank the citizens of Tide gun tide County schools and the students and faculty for hosting such a wonderful event to be invited to speak on Veterans Day and a city county and the community so steeped in patriotism is truly humbling just pick any conflict in American history The Sons and Daughters of Todd County of always answer Nations call beginning at the birth of the nation with Colonel John Todd ladies and gentlemen thank you it is my privilege to be here today laundry very special group of people and their families America's bedrooms today I speak to a student body of Generation Z you were born during the time when America was at war in Afghanistan and Iraq you know nothing other a nation at War American men and women being at War my prayers that American at War does not become your acceptable Norm hopefully I will do you proud this morning and share with you why Veterans Day is important to America and feed her generations of Americans your generation President John F Kennedy address to crowd on Veterans Day and said in an age that threatens the survival of Freedom we joined together to honor those who made our freedom possible on the 11th of the 11th Hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 2018 we as a nation will pause once more to recognize the Silence of the guns in a war to end all wars a century later we still feel dangerous challenges in an unsettled world one thing has not changed for ages American men and women continue to demonstrate the courage to sacrifice for the common good of all Americans for the last century we celebrated veterans on this day when the canons of World War 1 were silenced we thought we had fought the war to end all wars but as history prove there will always be Wars or rumors of wars most every child in American grammar school cameras the sing song Woman and day by which the guns fell silent and the war to end all wars on the 11th minute of the 11th Hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of the year so what is that on this November 11th we pause for the one under the time peace the fragile as China is often rot from hands one strong enough to toil at the end of the war we are here to celebrate strength courage and dedication of our veterans who not only will the hammer of conflict but also shape the world for lasting peace the brave actions of our veterans and during the pages of history today I want is not only to remember their gallantry on the battlefield we must looked at the lag lasting Legacy of string in service they brought with them when they returned on there are your father's or mother's uncle's aunt's brothers sisters teachers neighbors and your fellow Americans just as a nation rally for the troops in a time of War the same Nation must rally for the veterans during times of peace on this 100 Veterans Day Remembrance Day Armistice Day or the day of peace the day has been renamed the world stops and silence to pay tree the heroes of the battlefield who never see themselves as Heroes to that I say we owe veterans more than her silence our memories and our thanks in closing I would like to share with you and old soldier's prayer nearby Lewis Mallette I have fought when others fear to serve I have gone where others failed to go I've lost friends in a war and strife who value Duty more than love of life I have share the conference ship pain I've searched the lands for men that we have lost 5 sons who serve this land of liberty who would fight to see that other stricken Lanzar free I've seen the week before say command I have heard the Traders praise our enemy I've seen the challenge men become even Bolder I've seen the duty honor sacrifice of the soldier now I understand the meaning of Our Lives the loss of comrades not so very long ago so do you have answered Jimmy shemwell to recite the 13 folds of the flag and their meaning flag folding ceremony represents play religious principles on which our great country was originally founded portion of the flag denoting honor is the Canton of blue containing the Stars representing states are veterans served in the Canton field of blue dresses from left to right and is inverted on it when Drake does it Hall on the casket of a veteran who has served our country honorably in uniform in the US Armed Forces at the ceremony of retreat flag is lowered folded in a triangle they kept under watch throughout the night as a tribute to our nation's on her dead the next morning it is brought out and at the ceremony of reveley the Loft as a symbol of our believe in the resurrection of the body the symbols the folds of the flag are the first fold of our flag is a symbol of life the second. Symbol of our belief in eternal life The Surge how old is made in honor and remembrance of the veteran departing our ranks and who gave a portion of his or her life for the defense of our country to attain peace throughout the world the fourth pole represent are weaker nature as American citizens trusting in God it is to him we turn in times of Peace as well as in times of War for his Divine guidance Fiesta Bowl is a tribute to our country for in the words of Steven decanter how country in dealing with other countries may she always be right but it's still our country right or wrong which phone is for where our hearts lie it is with our heart that we pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands one nation under God indivisible with liberty and justice for all the Sevenfold is a tribute to the Armed Forces for it is through the armed forces that we protect our country and our flag against all enemies we found within or without the boundaries of our Republic the Eightfold is a tribute to the one who entered into the valley of the shadow of death that we might see the light of day and your honor our mother for whom it flies on Mother's Day the night fold is a tribute to Womanhood or it has been through their face lol love loyalty and devotion that's the character of the men women who have made this country great have been mowed the tent pole is a tribute to Father for he too has given his sons and daughters for the defense of our country since he or she was first born XI phone in the  of Hebrew citizens represents the lower portion of the Seal of King David and King Solomon and glorifies and their eyes the god of Abraham Isaac and Jacob the quilt fold in the eyes of a Christian citizen represents an emblem of Eternity and glorifies and their eyes God Father the Son and Holy Ghost when the flag is completely folded the stars are uppermost reminding us of our national motto in God we trust after the flag is completely folded and tucked in it has the appearance of a cocked hat ever reminding us of the soldiers who served under General George Washington and the same and the Rings you served under Captain John Paul Jones and were followed by their comrades and Shipmates in the US Armed Forces reserving for us the rights Privileges and freedoms that we enjoy at this time I'd like to call forward Miss Julia Martin Todd County Central High School sophomore who was selected as the winner of the Veterans Day essay here at High School freedom freedom is a word that is commonly followed with the phrase isn't always as a young adult growing up in today's society it is easy for many of us to forget the call that many pay for our freedom my personal story of Freedom began long before I was born with a man by the name of Dennis gross Dennis was a young man 19 years old. Life and bursting with his pride for the red white and blue it almost seem coincidental that young Dennis was drafted in November of 1968 Dennis pack his bags and headed to fight for his country like I'm sure many of you remember doing as well Genesis Journey took courage from not only him but his family which included his mother and father Cecil and Clara along with his three still Johnny Joe and Shirley Ann as a Corporal in the one hundred and first Airborne Division who specialize in artillery Dennis began at Fort Sill in Oklahoma with the short visit home before he was sent from Oakland Calif then to Vietnam Dennis share not goodbye but what he and his family thought was more of a see you later the end of Genesis Journey was the one that was not expected and not hope for what he and his family did not know is that he would know be returning home as their only thing in Vietnam for less than a year Dennis became ill and was sent to a nearby hospital after staying in the hospital for a short. Of time there was threat of an attack Dennis and six Rancho near but Ranch and as the Rockets start the hospital Dennis was killed along with many others on March 16th of 1969 a friend a son a brother and my personal hero lost his life his family notified of his death a few days later he was saying lighter is his family receive many medals and owner of his service along with the Purple Heart almost 35 years later in 2003 it seemed Dennis had fulfilled what he said out which like so many others was to make America a better place and secure our freedom also in that year Dennis's family welcome to new member a little girl who was able to grow up in a free country do to those sacrifices hate and others have that little girl I had the privilege to be born in America the land of the free and because of that I'd like to say a special thank you to my great uncle Dennis and those who have passed on with him today's veterans in front of me in all over America thank you for being a real life superhero and allowing students like me and so many others in this room to grow up not being for our right to my fellow to see students who are future and Wednesdays of the Air Force National Guard Army Coast Guard in the Marine Corps thank you for your bravery and dedication I hope you looked at these amazing men and women in front of us for guidance and I hope that you'll take their example as a gift and use it to the best of you of your ability I wish you the best of in all your endeavors thank you now we have Mr Jimmy said well to come back with a scholarship information senior class weight that's not a very big way there you go and I will send you out a jumped up and down I want to talk to you about the senior class about a scholarship offered by American Legion Post 91 here in Elkton Jeff day post 91 we're offering a $500 scholarship to the seniors there's not a whole lot of requirement for this if your parent grandparent great-grandparent brother or sister are veterans or are in military service you're eligible for this $500 scholarship we would like to have you write an essay for us over something that you feel close to it would be patriotism the flag history American history history of the wars or whatever you would like it has to be regarding patriotism of this a scholarship will be judged by committee from the American Legion Post I'm not sure who that committee is but they would be the ones that I will be judging it this money can be used for trade school college whatever you choose to use that winter will be announced at the awards banquet Central at the end of the school year for that that senior it can be used for anything any of that you think you would like to to use it for it's been said that veterans are people that have written a blank check to their country and these gentlemen sitting out here in front of it and ladies these gentlemen and ladies wrote that check and some of us like in Dennis's situation his check was cashed ours was not we were blessed but remember that when you see these gentlemen and enter this constant constant essay contest it needs to be in by March 1st for the committee to go over them and Logan everything so be sure I remember that March 1st is the deadline seniors to get it in $500 that'll go a long ways thank you at this time I would like mr. Wayne belanja to come to the stage to recognize Our World War II veterans good morning on behalf of the Rotary Club of Elkton Kentucky we would like to recognize Our World War II veterans in attendance today I like to present to each of you and award of appreciation thank you for your service that you I'm giving your country and for the service and support of the community that you continue to provide your service and sacrifice will never be forgotten are World War II veterans are Brian Blunt Cameron cost and Henry Malone we thank you for your service before closing I would like to give a special thanks to two women that have me working on this problem ever since August and May at the Miss Becky line in Tomball please get him a round of applause stupid how do you spell can I get a better as a round of applause for their hard work for this country and for you to be able to see another guy's back emergency the winner of the scholarship last year was Miss Madison series so just want to give her a recognition as I close our country military has left a legacy before ever assembled do you know if they carry out in the steam wherever they are serving and that is their finest tribute across the world for the people who struggle supper the song American and uniform and has man hope relief and deliverance for that we honor veterans today Abraham Lincoln once said let us out and right makes Mike and NFL dare to do our duty as we ought to stand it again thank you for taking the time to be with us today so we can honor you and I will program and for your service to our country at this time just Play song program I would like to ask everyone to please stand for the retiring the colors as I vanners are dismissed all students you need to remind remind until our veterans are dismissed thank you how blessed night Fort Worth thank you all for coming I guess you may dismiss yourself high school students
