Greg Shelton has been hired as Todd County Central High School Rebels Head Baseball Coach. Beginning his 44th year of coaching baseball, Shelton served as the head coach of Franklin-Simpson baseball for 995 games between 1976 and 2004. In 29 seasons, Shelton won 678 of those games, including one state, two sectional, six region and 11 district championships, and was twice named Kentucky’s Baseball Coach of the Year.
In nearly three decades at FSHS, where the school’s baseball facility is named “Greg Shelton Field,” he had just one losing season. Inducted into the Kentucky High School Coach’s Hall of Fame in 1997, Coach Shelton left Franklin Simpson in 2004 after retiring from teaching to take a teaching and assistant coaching position at Beech High School in Tennessee. During his tenure in Tennessee, Coach Shelton was named 9AAA Coach of the Year in 2006 and 2009. Coach Shelton has also served as Head Coach in Russellville for two years and Christian County for two years, where he was named Kentucky High School Region 2 Coach of the Year in 2015. Coach Shelton most recently served as Head Varsity Coach at South Fort Myers High School in South Myers, Florida.
With an overall Career Coaching Record of 984 Ws – 484 Ls, Coach Shelton and his wife Kathy are excited for the opportunity to return to Kentucky from Florida to continue his coaching career. Coach Shelton stated, “We are excited about this challenge, and look forward to trying to move this program forward with the help from school support and community boosters.”
