Mattie Knight Sanders

 Mattie Knight Sanders was a 1949 graduate of Drakesboro High School.  She earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from Austin Peay State University and a Master of Arts from Western Kentucky University.

Mattie began her teaching career in 1961 at Elkton Elementary.  The following year she transferred to Guthrie Elementary and remained there for 26 years before retiring in 1988. Mattie Knight Sanders

Mrs. Sanders was a supporter of National Audubon Society, Nature Conservancy, World Wildlife Fund, Defenders of Wildlife, Save the Monarch, and the Smithsonian.

Mattie was a national, state, and county education association member as well as Kentucky Retired Teachers.  She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society, a charter member of Alpha Epsilon Chapter, and Robert Penn Warren Birthplace Committee.

Mattie Sanders was an active member of the First Methodist Church of Guthrie, Kentucky.
