Dr. Rochelle graduated from Guthrie High School and was the 1953 Kentucky High School Player of the Year in basketball. He graduated from Vanderbilt University in 1957 with a degree in business administration, having been named Vanderbilt basketball's top scorer for three years. He was drafted by the St. Louis Hawks as the 36th overall pick. He served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Army, and went on to earn a degree in education from Trinity University and a doctorate from the University of Mississippi. He became principal of Sharon Grove, Trenton, and Guthrie Elementary Schools, and in 1989 was named Director/Administrator of Todd County Schools' Special Programs. He was instrumental in founding preschool programs, and in the preservation of the Robert Penn Warren Birthplace Museum.
